Analysis: It was the first major league start for Pill as he became the third pitcher the Mets have tried in place of injured ace Noah Syndergaard. Maybe he can keep the fifth starter job after pitching well Tuesday, departing in line for the win. "He lived up to exactly what I heard about," Mets manager Terry Collins said of Pill, who recorded a 1.96 ERA in nine starts between Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas. "He doesn't give in. He doesn't beat himself."
