Buffalo beats Akron 24-6 for first 6-1 start since 1959

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Tyree Jackson threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score and Buffalo breezed to a 24-6 victory over Akron in Mid-American Conference action on Saturday.

Buffalo is now 6-1 for the first time since 1959. The Bulls (6-1, 3-0) are bowl eligible for a second straight season and fourth overall.

Jackson connected with George Rushing for a 17-yard TD in the first quarter to erase a 3-0 deficit. It was Jackson's 18th TD pass of the season, already the Bulls' fourth-best single-season total. Adam Mitcheson stretched the lead to 10-3 with 30-yard field goal early in the second quarter, moving one away from the school record with 43 career makes.
